Patterns, Toddlers, & Jesus

Aaron Sharp | September 15, 2020

Over the past few weeks our family has been learning about the Old Testament character of Abraham. This past Sunday we read Genesis 20 where Abraham, for the second time, lied about Sarah being his wife out of fear for his own life. Aside from Abraham’s lack of chivalry one of the the things I wanted to talk about with our family was patterns. This was now the second time Abraham had done this and we can seen patterns of fear, lying, and a few other things emerging.

Before we got into a discussion of the different patterns some of us have (My propensity to get cranky when people try to talk to me while I am having to concentrate on work was brought up, and justifiably so) I thought we’d spend some time going over what a pattern is for the younger members of the family. I put this up on the white board.(1)

I think asked the 7yo Ballerina what came next and she replied, “A triangle.” So far so good.

Then I asked the 5yo Fashionista what came after the triangled and she said, “A circle.”

Our understanding of patterns was at 100% so I decided to go for broke and asked the 3yo Slugger what came next. He studied the board and said, “Jesus?”

What the Sharpnadoes lack in understanding of basic patterns they make up for in Jesus Jukes.

  1. Yes, we have a white board in our dining room. We are homeschoolers after all.
